The lively central square of Tampere. To make it playful it is called Keskustori (The Central Square). Pay attention to the width of the walking street compared to the amount of people. Admittedly the picture is taken during those hours when the appropriate people are either in kindergarten, studying or working and only aimless wanderers and lost tourists are consuming the sidewalks of the cobble-stoned main street to take photos. The reddish lane is for bicyclists.

Although mostly The Central Square stays dead, today a political party happened to arrive on its tour through the main cities of the country. In the picture they are doing politics by having a contest in shingle basket throwing.

The main library of Tampere. Instead of looking like a windowed mushroom cloud or a landing inter-universe spacecraft, this one is intended from the bird’s eye view to resemble a capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus), one of those brave fowls of our infinite forests. Listed in random order the building contains comics, comics, science fiction and both fiction and non-fiction. Films and journals are also in the first floor, the second floor is occupied by music section, café and a space for local novices to have their very first exhibitions. Still, more comics in foreign languages are found in an unnamed suburban library, and to get R.U.R. you had to travel all the way to a library in Helsinki.

A lake in Tampere a few kilometers away from the city center. Just like other countries and republics located in the taiga ring, Finland is uniquely called the land of thousand lakes. Still from the objective point of view especially Tampere stands out from the rest of Finnish cities being compacted between two lakes.

Certain fraction of Finnish population like to spend sunny summer days washing their rag rugs with pine oil soap. In ancient times and still in some peripheral areas people tend to wash the rugs straightly in the lake sitting on their summer cottage piers.
